Quick Start Guide

- How to start a session
- What to do if your computer tries to update while the student is taking the test. Click here for illustrated instructions on how to disable the Windows Update service.
- Adding tests while in an active session
- Information about a few important solutions to the following issues that popped up this week in NorCal...
- Unintentional Session Time out on the Administrator Interface - keep your computer awake if you are the proctor, otherwise it will time out.
- Universal Supports for EL students - if supports are missing, contact CAASPP@fivekeyscharter.org and we can work with you in real time to resolve this.
Lessons Learned in NorCal:
- You can choose which test they take based on how much time they have, their comfort level and other factors. Mostly we started students on the ELA test then went to Math then to ELA Performance Task then Math Performance Task. But this is up to the student - they could do both ELA tests in one day, for example.
- There are 42 questions for Math and ELA. Your admin screen will show you student progress.
- The Performance Task: ELA = 3; Math = 6. Timing for both: 2 hours. Performance test could take longer.
- Students must pause their test when they leave for a quick break and then the session will resume once the student logs back in. Your administrator screen will also show you how long the student's testing has been on pause, as well as how long they have been testing.
- Once the settings in the Admin interface has been approved, you cannot go back and change those settings (such as Spanish, bolded font, etc.).
- If there is a pop-up window for updates, you can just close out the window and have the student log out and then log back into the session.
- Proctors can look up student's SSID can be searched in the Administrator Interface.
- The Proctors laptop does not need to have the secure browser on their laptop.
- Students can accidentally select the wrong test: Please make sure that the students have selected the proper test PRIOR to you approving it.
- Students can FLAG a question to go back to, prior to completing the test. When students hit, END TEST, lists any FLAGGED questions. Once those questions are answered, the test will be completed.
- Teachers will be tracking attendance for students who test, hence the requirement for sending an email noting who has completed the testing.
- Remind students to hold onto their Student ID cards so that their number to log back into a paused session; they will also need to re-enter the Session ID (which should be written on the whiteboard).
- Please focus on proctoring and not doing other work while students are testing.
- Be sure that you move your mouse, tap on your computer and ensure your computer is awake while you are proctoring or it will turn off and close the session.
- If students arrive late - it is fine for them to take the test. Since these tests are untimed and proctors are at the site for the entire day please do not turn students away unless they arrive after 2 pm.
- We can refill Clipper cards (we think we can refill TAP cards - still confirming) --please notify us at the end of each who needs one.
- Please talk to the students and see who is coming back the next day. I appreciate those of you who are adding it in your daily debrief. Even better can you please add the date to the appropriate test on the interim Assessment Scheduling Google Doc. Baby blue on the date indicates that they showed up and completed the test. If there is an issue (student left without completing) please put that in the proctor notes column.
- We are not giving out gift cards or movie cards to students at this time. All of the students who complete the Interim this week (all 4 sessions) will be in a raffle for one gift card. Next week same thing for those who complete all 4 by the end of next week.
- TAP or Clipper Cards are intended for those students who need help getting to and from the site. We don't need to deny the card if student's insist, but please don't be offering it to every student.
- You will receive 2 rosters: a full list of students pre-registered for testing and the students who require Universal Supports. Please note not every student will be attending on Monday. The rosters are for your site and your testing roster - so students who will test at that site on any day will be on the roster.

OVERALL PERFORMANCE DATA FOR 11TH GRADE STUDENTS
Things to be proud of
Things to Be Proud of:
Congrats, Five Keys, on the immense team effort that this testing initiative took. Special thanks to the proctors, facilitators, SpEd team, graders, teachers of test-takers, principals, and all who stepped up and took on extra responsibilities to make this happen. You are deeply appreciated.
- We tested 93% of our 11th graders and 97% of our 12th graders! For our first time implementing a standardized testing program across 26 locations in Northern and Southern California, both in custody and out, these numbers are amazing. Every effort was made to test all eligible students. Reasons for those who didn’t test include medical issues or were dropped during the testing window.
- The schoolwide effort in rolling out this initiative. We tested 48 eleventh graders and 60 twelfth graders, accommodating a variety of schedules, restrictions, and other unique circumstances. All levels of staff collaborated over an 8-month period to make this possible. Now we know what an actual schoolwide initiative looks and feels like at Five Keys!
- The way our staff went above and beyond to get every student tested. Our staff faced every possible barrier a school could face in trying to complete these tests. From technological issues to making home visits, the way our teachers, proctors, and CAASPP Operations team advocated for each student’s needs with each challenge that arose was impressive and much appreciated.
- The instructional progress we made in preparation for testing. We now have 7 new Common Core-aligned courses and 4 interactive workshops that integrate Science, Math, ELA, and digital literacy! Special thanks to the teachers and principals who attended trainings and put the time into preparing and teaching these workshops -- sometimes through multiple lessons to make sure every student was reached!
Congrats, Five Keys, on the immense team effort that this testing initiative took. Special thanks to the proctors, facilitators, SpEd team, graders, teachers of test-takers, principals, and all who stepped up and took on extra responsibilities to make this happen. You are deeply appreciated.
